Versions and minor mods of the original Jet Set Willy

 

This section lists a selection of mods of the original Jet Set Willy which are not "modified enough" to be considered new games or "advanced modifications", but which are interesting for various reasons: because they feature new individual rooms, new sprites, new technical features, etc.

 

Jet Set Willy: April Showers [Dave Nicholls, 1985]
A version featuring one additional room, "April Showers", which was published as a type-in in Issue 13 of Your Spectrum magazine.

 

Jet Set Willy: The Storm Warning Mix [Russ Juckes and Darren Salt, 1999/2018]
A version featuring the "April Showers" room, the official Software Projects fixes and also, in its 2018 edition, fixes for the bugs outlined in Richard Dymond's disassembly.

 

Jet Set Willy - J. G. Harston's version [Jonathan Graham Harston, 1984-2007, bugfix 2018]
A version using an extended JSW48 game engine which allows more than 64 rooms, featuring new rooms "The Cave Mouth", "The Cave" and "April Showers" plus several mainly blank rooms, slight modifications to a part of the original rooms, a new sprite and some new technical features.

 

Jet Set Willy - Ian Collier's version [Ian Collier, 1985/86-1994]
A version with a 'megatrainer' and four new rooms: "Where the Chapel should be", "Behind the bar", "The Playroom" and "The room without a name".

 

A Big HELLO /to/ Richard Hallas! [Andrew Broad, Broadsoft, 1998]
A version with three additional rooms: "A Big HELLO /to/ Richard Hallas!", "Skyhooks" and "In The Hall Of The Mountain King".

 

Jet Set Willy - Rob Moseley's version [Rob Moseley, 1999]
A version with six new rooms: "The Reactor Core", "Entrance to the Seal Chamber", "The Laboratory", "The Seal Chamber", "The Reactor Plant" and "The Basement".

 

Jet Set Willy: Perpetual Motion [Darth Melkor, 2005]
A version in which Willy moves incessantly, with several rooms edited to make the game completable, and rooms 47, 61, 62 and 63 massaged into a playable form.

 

Jet Set Willy: As Manufacturer Intended [Metalmickey, 2017]
A version meant to eliminate, as far as possible, every known bug, anomaly and unintended quirk in the original JSW, with four new rooms: "The Bunker", "Special Branch", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "The Treehouse".

 

Jet Set Willy: Willy's Underground Passage [Metalmickey, 2017]
A version in which the layout of Willy's house has been altered, with six new rooms: "The Coal Scuttle", "No You've Never Seen This Before", "Underneath the Kitchens", "Down in the Basement", "Inside the Escape Tunnel" and "Tunnel Exit".

 

JSW April++ [Nigel Bland (Darkman), 2004]
A version which runs faster than normal and has four additional rooms: "April Showers", "The CGA room", "The other CGA room" and "Oh Shit ! The Central Cavern !".

 

Jet Set Willy - The R. D. Foord Software editor version [R. D. Foord, 1985]
A "3-room test" for R. D. Foord's Jet Set Willy Room Designer, featuring new rooms: "The staircase.", "The little room." and "Top staircase."

 

Jet Set Willy - The Softricks editor version [Mark Crawford and R. Kay, Softricks, 1984] (ready-to-play version 2018)
A version with two sample rooms from JSW Editor MK II: "The Moat" and "The Vault", and a slightly modified game engine.

 

Jet Set Willy - The Paul Rhodes' editor version [Paul Rhodes, Spectrum Electronics, 1984] (ready-to-play version 2018)
A version with two sample rooms which accompanied JetSet Editor: "The Space Station" and an untitled one.

 

Heads JSW [Norman Sword, 2019]
A version with various improvements to the original code, running much faster than the original, and with Willy's head changing from room to room (featuring 16 definitions of Willy altogether).

 

Jet Set Willy: The Mr Noseybonk Edition [Ian Rushforth, 2019]
A version of JSW with Mr Noseybonk as the main protagonist and modified title-screen and in-game music.

 

ylliW teS teJ (MirrorJSW) [Andrew Broad, 2004] (Special Edition, 2007)
A laterally inverted variant of JSW, generated automatically by a Java program.

 

Jet Set Wibble [John Elliott, 2004]
An upside-down variant of JSW, created by tweaking the game engine.

 

Jet Set Willy: Mono [John Elliott, 2004]
A black-and-white variant of JSW created by tweaking the game engine.

 

Jet Set Willy Mono Plus [Andy Ford, 2021]
An expansion on John Elliott's Jet Set Willy: Mono, offering a choice of colours.

 

La casa di Jack / La casa de Jack [Load 'n' Run (IT), 1984] / [Juancho Martínez Cubero, Load 'n' Run (ES), 1985]
Slightly modified Italian and Spanish versions of JSW with full Italian / Spanish text translations.

One of JODI's artistic variations of JSW, showing all of the elements of the game as squares of colour attributes.

A bug-fixed edition of the original version.

 

Jet Set Willy: Mark Woodmass's fast version [Mark Woodmass, 2002]
A version which speeds up the frame rate by replacing the slow LDIR instructions with a stack method to copy the screen data to the Spectrum's video RAM.

 

Turbo Jet Set Willy [Scott Jensen (Mysterion), 2018]
A speed-patched version of the game with improved frame rate on both 48k and 128k Spectrums.

 

The Invisible Man [Lee Prince, 2002]
A CSSCGC 2002 entry: JSW hacked so that you play as an invisible sprite, and guardians cannot therefore collide with you.

 

Jet Set Chile [Bad Horsey, London Circus Cats, 2010]
A version related thematically to the 2010 Copiapó mining accident, apparently meant to be a kind of demo only, with three new rooms: "Nag Nag Nag", "Down the hatch" and "69 days in the hole".

 

Various minor hacks
A selection of hacked versions with custom loading screens, cheat menus, etc.
